TORONTO, Dec. 1, 2016 /CNW/ -- Just in time to ring in a new year of dining, OpenTable, the world's leading provider of online restaurant reservations and part of The Priceline Group (NASDAQ: PCLN), today announced the 100 Best Restaurants in Canada for 2016. These awards reflect the combined opinions of more than 480,000 restaurant reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners for more than 1,900 restaurants in Canada.
From indulgent sushi spots to tantalizing trattorias, luxurious vineyards and everything in between, the 100 Best Restaurants in Canada list features exceptional restaurants from provinces across the country. Fifty-one restaurants from last year have again been selected, making room for a number of establishments to be recognized by OpenTable diners on this year's 100 Best Restaurants list. Ontario leads all provinces with 45 restaurants in the top 100, followed by British Columbia with 24, Alberta with 18 and Québec with 11. Manitoba is also represented on this third-annual list.
For the first time since OpenTable began compiling this list in 2014, Italian proved the most popular cuisine among diners, followed by Canadian and French cuisines placing second and third respectively. Restaurants serving Japanese, Contemporary American, Spanish and Mediterranean cuisines also ranked in the Top 100.

The list of the 100 Best Restaurants in Canada is generated solely from more than 480,000 verified OpenTable diner reviews collected between November 1, 2015, and October 31, 2016. All restaurants with a minimum "overall" score and number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. Qualifying restaurants were then sorted according to a score calculated from each restaurant's average rating in the "overall" category along with that restaurant's rating relative to others in the same metropolitan area.
