Press Release

Reserve Online, Feed The Hungry

November 28, 2000

God wants you to make a reservation through OpenTable.

OK, that's a slight exaggeration. But representatives at San Francisco's Glide Memorial Church want you to, and while not the word of God, that's pretty good too.

The famous Methodist church on 330 Ellis Street, well known for providing a host of services to the city's less fortunate citizen, has teamed up with San Francisco-based online restaurant reservation service OpenTable to help put more food on the table during the holiday season.

Until the end of this year, for every dining reservation made through OpenTable for a San Francisco, San Jose, or Wine Country restaurant, the company will donate the cost of a full meal on behalf of the diner to Glide's "Free Meals Program."

Begun in 1969 as a small Monday night dinner with limited capacity, John Warner, Director of Development at Glide, says the Church's Program today serves as many as 3,500 meals a day, averaging more than one million meals served every year.

"We at Glide encourage anyone who's dining out this season to take advantage of OpenTable's offer and make their reservations online," says Warner. "It costs nothing, and each reservation will help Glide Memorial feed someone who might otherwise go hungry."

With more than 200 restaurant partners in Northern California, prospective do-gooders have a sizable list to choose from, including big name local favorites like 5th Floor, Fleur de Lys, Sent Sovi and Chateau Souverain. Reservations can be made for free at these and all of OpenTable's more than 1100 partner restaurants 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
