Valentine's Day: Romantic Dining Revisited

Houston Chronicle

According to a survey by OpenTable.com, one of the leading online restaurant reservations sites, only 2 percent of Valentine's Day diners care about soft music, and only 5 percent care about candlelight. A private table (28 percent) is considered one of most important elements of a romantic dinner, followed by exceptional service (16 percent) and a beautiful view (13 percent).

What's the most popular type of food for the lover's holiday? Itlaian cuisine is tops (33 percent), followed by French (29 percent).

Since Valentine's Day falls on Sunday this year, OpenTable.com said that Friday and Saturday also are considered romantic date nights for the holiday, so diners have a higher chance of scoring that reservation at that must-do Italian or French restaurant or that special table with a view.

Leave the candles and music for when you get home.
